Natural History Society

WHO WE ARE

The Natural History Society aim to celebrate and get students engaged with all aspects of natural history, from the latest scientific research to ancient fossils, from the great outdoors to the amazing wildlife you can find within it.

WHAT WE DO

We host regular informal stimulating science talks with guest speakers from the university and further afield. Past talks have covered a vast array of topics including whale conservation, climate change, paleontology and women in science. Every year we also host an extra special guest speaker event which in the past has featured TV's Steve Jones, inventor of iflscience.com and Sheffield allumni Elise Andrews, and this year will play host to our biggest guest yet, BBC TV scientist and favourite bug man, George McGavin!

We also take regular strolls into the incredible peak district national park to see the amazing landscapes and try and spot some of the abundant wildlife.

Our other regular events include trips to museums, zoos and aquariums, film screenings and Attenborough nights where we huddle round a big screen with free hot chocolate and biscuits and watch some amazing wildlife documentaries! We also love to host pub quizzes, photography competitions, debates and our end of year BBQ!
