Conservation Volunteers

WHO WE ARE

SUCV are dedicated to maintaining the natural and managed greenspaces in Sheffield and the surrounding Peak District. We work closely with many recognised charities and organisations to bring the most important conservation goals to light through active tasks.

WHAT WE DO

We run weekend tasks with environmental organisations such as the National Trust and Peak District Rangers. We love getting our hands dirty for nature, so typical tasks include scrub clearance, dry stone walling, fence building, tree-planting and hedge laying. Hoards of tea and biscuits is a given at all weekly tasks! An important highlight in the SUCV calendar is our Residential trip – run in Autumn and Spring, we cover a whole weekend’s worth of conservation tasks and our infamous ‘SUCV olympics’ as night falls. These trips are always met with excellent enthusiasm and high demand! When we’re not covered in mud we love running a variety of other activities throughout the semester. These are our ‘Ecological Skills Workshops' which offer our members the opportunity to learn useful skills such species identification and habitat surveying techniques. Our jolly lot also gets together for regular socials and pub nights throughout the semester.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

If you're willing to get grubby in the name of conservation then we want you! Join the dirty weekenders - you can attend as little or as much as you wish. All that is required is a sign-up to specific tasks by replying to the e-mails beforehand. Membership is free so be sure not to miss out! Subscribe to our mailing list on the website to get the latest news on our weekly tasks and other events. You can also get in touch with us over facebook and twitter to see what we’re up to!
