WHO WE ARE

 

People & Planet is the largest student network in Britain campaigning for action on world poverty, human rights & the environment. People & Planet Sheffield is The University of Sheffield Union’s branch of the national network.

 

WHAT WE DO

 

Our campaigning on campus takes many different forms- banner drops, petitioning, parades, street theatre and much more!

These are our current campaigns:

• Fossil Free – after two years of campaigning we were recently successful in convincing the University of Sheffield to stop investing in fossil fuel companies and we are now in the process of deciding on a new direction for our the campaign!

• Sweatshop Free - we want the University to sign up to Electronics Watch, an organisation that monitors the supply chains of public institutions in order to allow them to make more informed choices about their electronics purchases, helping to clamp down on sweatshops in the electronics industry in the process. 

 

We also run fortnightly swapshops in the Greenspace in the Union, where you can swap unwanted items for other goodies on a one-to-one basis.

We have recently organised trips to national climate marches, and even went to the Paris Climate Conference in December 2015!

Most of our local trips are free anyway but if you’d like to get discounts for our further afield trips, socials and hoodies then membership for the society costs just £3 for the whole year and you can join at any one of our events.
