Natural History Peaks Walk – February 15th 2015
Our monthly walk took us to a misty Castleton in the Hope valley, where we set off on a 7km walk into the surrounding hills. The walk took us through Wynnat’s Pass, a winding passage through steep precipices, which brought us out into clear view of snow-stained Mam Tor, the hill we would be ascending.
A steep climb brought us onto the ‘Heaven-like’ (actual quote from a newcomer to the Peaks) summit, where we stopped for lunch and enjoyed watching the crows and jackdaws circling overhead.
From here, we carried on along Mam’s backbone, passing a friendly paraglider – no doubt scaring the local buzzards away – along Hollin’s Cross and to the majestic Lose Hill. Descending back into Hope the mist cleared and lazy sunlight let us know spring was on its way. Following the glory of Saint Valentine, it was a lovely day for all those involved
