Beekeeping Social

Last Monday, Sheffield Beekeeping Society had an exciting social at the Fox and Duck. We all had a great time and it was brilliant to see such a big turnout of student bee enthusiasts! Everyone enjoyed lots of our very own honey produced from our hives in Endcliffe, as well as lots of crumpets and pancakes.

It was also brilliant to meet all our new beekeepers, who have now commenced upon a 10 week beekeeping course. This course is run by Sheffield Beekeeping Association, involving a combination of theory and practical sessions. It will ultimately equip our members to maintain our own hives, sustaining healthy bee colonies and producing lots more honey.

We still have a lot of honey from last season to jar, and we are in the process of printing labels so it can be sold in local outlets. Once this has been done, make sure you look out for our honey in shops near the Union. Once we have negotiated with suppliers we will post a list to let you know where our honey is on sale.

With the bees waking up from the long cold winter we are also buzzing into action. Check out Facebook page and the Nature Network page to stay updated, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you’d like to get involved. With our AGM quickly approaching, we will soon need to select a new committee of dedicated members to take over the society, so let us know if you’re interested!
