Tales of a Roving Scientist

On Saturday the 21st, the Nature Network will be joined by James Borrell – scientist, conservationist, writer and explorer - in an event proudly titled “Back Yard to the Back of Beyond: Tales of a Roving Scientist”.

James is a conservation biologist, currently based in London. In between managing the social enterprise ‘Discover Conservation’, James keeps a great blog where he shares conservation successes, with the aim to inspire a new generation. He’s a huge advocate of youth development through scientific expeditions – and who can blame him after spending an amazing amount of time exploring the great outdoors, from Norway to South Africa?

In a time when combining the words 'environmental' and 'issues' causes most people to bury their heads in the sand, James is here to convince us that there is a lot to be optimistic about. From tales of adventure, fear and excitement in the far-flung reaches of the Dhofar Mountains or the depths of the Peruvian Amazon, to dedicating 2013 to 'A Year Of Citizen Science' whilst here in the UK, James will be sharing those experiences that have served to remind him again and again of the simplest, most honest answer to the question: Why dedicate your life to conservation?

We couldn’t be more pleased to have James join us over the Takeover weekend – why not come and see what he has to say? We guarantee you’ll be clambering to get out and explore afterwards.
