British Ecological Society’s Annual Symposium

For anybody interested in a career in conservation - whether as a researcher, working for the government or on the ground, the British Ecological Society’s Annual Symposium this year may be of interest to you! It is a joint event with the Cambridge Conservation Initiative and is to be held not only in the beautiful city of Cambridge but in the new ‘David Attenborough Building’ as part of its launch as a major new hub for conservation networks and organisations in the UK.

Attending a conference may sound like a stuffy or boring thing to do but in actual fact attending an event like this is an amazing way to meet people, be inspired and open doors for your future career. As an undergraduate I went to a similar symposium on antelope conservation (of all things) – ‘to get some case studies for my exams’ – and came back energised AND with contacts that later got me a fun and interesting working on the genetics of North Atlantic Right Whales in Copenhagen. So why not give it a try?

Rates are cheaper for BES student members (something else that I would recommend!) and it may be possible to get help with funding if you ask around. Find out more and register here.
