Peaks & City Takeover: Take II

Here we go, the long awaited photos from this year's Takeover...

We kicked off the weekend with a good ol' Nat Hist pub quiz! Impressively, the alumni team won the prizes by a point (clearly they haven't forgotten too much since graduating!).

On Saturday morning, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, we headed out to Wyming Brook for an early Spring birdwatching walk led by SUBS. The birds were out and about singing their hearts out - and weren't the only interesting characters we met along the way...

After a trip to the pub on the way home, our 2016 attendees headed back home to get changed out of mucky clothes ready for the film night. People & Planet, along with our venue Moon Unit's Tea Emporium, did a fantastic job of making it a cosy (and yet epic in terms of film content!) evening spent with friends old and new.

On Sunday, we headed out with SUCV to help the National Trust with their wood pasture restoration project on the Longshaw Estate. There's nothing quite like getting stuck in for the day (sometimes a bit too literally!) and then being rewarded with a hearty lunch, toasted marshmallows around a good fire and a satisfying view back over the work you've done. You can find out more about everything that's going on at Longshaw here.

Finally, after another packed 'Peaks & City' programme, EnviroSoc drew the weekend to a close with a chilled Sunday afternoon in the Uni Arms. We were lucky enough to be able to book the whole place for ourselves to wind down, tuck into the buffet and share the best bits of the weekend one last time. The decorations really gave it a personal touch!

I'd just like to send out a thank you again to everyone who organised the Takeover and took part - and also a special shout out to our friends at Nottingham University who joined us again this year. Look out for 2017 - we may be passing on the Takeover torch to them next year!

Last but not least, thank you to everyone who donated loose change at the pub quiz, film night and closing party. You raised a total of £58 for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust - well worth the effort of putting a few buckets out - and if you missed the opportunity but wanted to donate, the JustGiving page is still open here. That's all from the Takeover team for now - we'll see you again next year! Who knows, you might find yourself among the organisers...
